As our gadgets and machines are getting more familiar with the technology and internet, we need more stringent safety features to ensure their secure core functioning. You must be aware that your personal computer is at risk from hackers- and so is your automobile. The modern automobile is one such example where the use of computers is one the rise for specialized purposes entertainment, functions, security etc. The cars that bring the greatest threats of being hacked, are the ones that have most features networked together, especially where WiFi and radio networks could be connected with your smartphones and other devices. Most of the security measures taken in your vehicle are controlled by its manufacturers, but overall the adoption of modern safety practices has been slow from their side.A forensic consultancy PT&C}|LWG Forensic Consulting Services has made a list of top 5 most hackable cars by performing a study. This list is a result of the study of different research work, recall info and recent media reports.
The study shows that the top 5 most hackable cars are: 2014 Jeep Cherokee, the 2014 Infiniti Q50, the 2015 Cadillac Escalade, the 2010 and 2014 Toyota Prius and the 2014 Ford Fusion.
Apart from the most hackable cars, the study also tells the least hackable cars: The 2014 Audi A8, the 2014 Dodge Viper, the 2014 Honda Accord and the Tesla Model S. These safest cars tend to have fewest computerized and networked parts and the in-vehicle communication systems can’t talk to the physical components.
In its blog post, firm writes that the car hack occurs in three steps. “First, the hacker compromises one of the computer systems remotely. Next, the hacker sends messages to cyber-physical components, and then finally makes the destination engine control unit perform some desired action. Parts of your car that might be affected can include the ignition system, the brakes, door locks, and other systems of your car.”
