: Earlier this week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that his company is working to bring an option to dislike the posts. The latest revelations indicate that it won’t be exactly a dislike button, as that would be very negative. Instead, it would be a collection of the Emojis of some basic human reactions.
If you read comments on some polarizing posts on Facebook, you would soon realise how badly this world needs a dislike button – the ultimate cure and the holy grail of Facebook trolling. Earlier this week, people were ecstatic when Mark Zuckerberg told the world that his company is working on a dislike button.
However, the latest revelations indicate that it won’t exactly a dislike button, as that would be very negative. Instead, the Facebook patents show that it would be bringing an Emoji reaction button.
Answering the questions at his live Q&A session at Facebook Headquarters, Mark Zuckerberg said that company is building a new feature. “I think people have asked about the dislike button for many years. Today is a special day because today is the day I can say we’re working on it and shipping it,” he added.
A recently revealed document from December 23, 2014 – reveals how the empathy Emoji tool might look like. Instead of the usual thumbs down symbol for disliking, users will be able to choose one from a pool of 4-5 Emojis to show their reaction.
According to the patent illustration, Facebook could limit the Emoji option to avoid any kind of clutter and provide the very basic Emojis.
A similar feature is already present in Slack where you can choose the “Add A Reaction” and pick one from a huge list of standard Emoji. But, it doesn’t tell you the reaction of the people as a whole because it’s very open-ended and shows lots of random reactions.
In his Q&A session, Zuckerberg said that Facebook will be soon testing this feature. Get ready to “unlike” some posts in near future.
